Only the Necessities

In the Flores Household, I’m the one who does the grocery shopping.  If you’re curious as to why I do the grocery shopping in our house, you can read about the time I dragged my husband to the grocery store with me.

I pretty much live by the principle of buying a little bit at a time, so we don’t wind up throwing a lot away, so I usually go weekly, sometimes twice if we need more produce.  (For some unexplained reason, my husband and I eat about three bunches of bananas a week–Another post, another time.)

It just so happens that for the latter part of last week, I went on a business trip to Orlando, and I didn’t get a chance to go to the grocery store before I left.  I told my husband that he would need to get some groceries without me.

“Yeah, yeah, I will.”

Of course, I didn’t really believe him, so I reminded him Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before I came home just to be sure that he heard me and that he would do it.

“Yeah, yeah, I will.”

Semi-convinced that he had gone to the grocery store in my absence (Yes, I do still have some faith in my husband), I asked him “So, what’s for dinner?” when he picked me up from the airport.

“Oh you know, a little bit of this, a little bit of that,” was his response.  “Don’t worry, I got the necessities.”

I didn’t feel like going into detail about it just then, so I waited until we got home.  I opened up the fridge and then shut it.  Sighing, I opened up the cupboards next.  No joke, this is what I found:

1. 6-pack of beer
2. Carton of milk
3. Various condiments
4. Bag of tortilla chips

I shot an evil glare at my husband as I grabbed the car keys.

“What?!  I got the necessities!”  He shouted as he scurried to catch up with me.
