I discovered an interesting phenomenon this week that I just had to share with you all…My husband and I literally talk non-stop 24/7/365.
I’m serious…In the wake of this social media boom, my husband and I are always talking…via text messaging, emailing (at work and personal email accounts), chatting on Facebook, tweeting on Twitter, leaving blurbs on MySpace, spouting out info on LinkedIn, commenting on each other’s blogs, etc., etc. Hell, I even tell my husband when we’ve been invited out by adding the event to his Google calendar! (It’s much easier than verbally telling him, only to have him forget it the next day.) Anyway, you get the point. We’re connected…All the time.
Of course, we physically talk to each other a lot too. In between typing out our thoughts online, we also continue those never ending conversations during the day by checking in on our cell phones. And just in case you’re wondering, my husband and I do speak face-to-face when we get home. (It’s not like my husband texts me when he needs something, and I’m in another room. And I certainly don’t send him instant messages via Facebook asking him to make me a snack when he’s closer to the kitchen than my present location.) No we don’t do that all the time.
So this realization got me thinking…Is this constant keyboard communication a good thing? A bad thing? Or is it just a sign of the times?
Are there any other couples out there who have embraced the e-communication era, or are we just the weird techie newlyweds?
