Trashy Neighbors

My husband and I complained a little when our neighbors kept putting their trash bags next to the outdoor garbage cans we share because the animals kept ripping open the bags and streaming the trash all over the driveway.  (We live on the bottom of a duplex, so we share our garbage cans with our neighbors upstairs.)

Then we complained a little more when we took out our one bag of trash the night before trash pick-up day, and all four of the garbage cans were already full.  (That complaining actually resulted in our very own trash can, courtesy of our landlord.)

And we’ve complained a couple of times to our neighbors when they leave their garbage bags in the shared hallway because the stench creeps into our unit.  (Two words: DIRTY DIAPERS).

Now, I’m not a mean person.  Really, I’m not.  But if I have to walk past my neighbor’s maggot-infested trash cans one more time, I will be forced to become one!

I first noticed the maggots when I took out the trash last week.  There were tiny pale-yellow worm-looking things inching around on two of the neighbor’s trash cans.  I let out a yelp, dumped our trash bag in our one trash can and quickly went back inside.

When I went outside this morning, I just had to look again.  Sure enough, the little buggers had multiplied.  Now, three garbage cans were covered.  Our one can was still clean, but I’m afraid it’s only a matter of time before the creepy-crawly things will make their way over to it.  (Side note: I’m getting all itchy right now just thinking of those maggots.)

I know garbage cans are supposed to be filled with garbage, but this is just so gross.  Should I say something to the neighbors or just go straight to the landlord??
